Who We Are

We adhere to the K.r.i.l.l. philosophy,
Keeping Researched Integrated Livestock & Layouts in Home Aquaria

So who exactly are Mr. & Mrs. Krill? Well, let me be up front in saying that we are no experts. We do not possess graduate degrees in marine biology, nor do we have a lifetime of experience in the hobby. However, what we do possess is a growing passion for all things aquarium. As we depart from our novice level of understanding within the hobby, Mr. Krill  and I felt our growing knowledge and experiences could prove beneficial for other newcomers and perhaps provide a venue for more experienced aquarists to platform discussions. If we are going to be sharing our opinions and suggestions within the aquarium hobby, I feel it is best to tell you a little about ourselves...

What initially attracted us to the hobby was, oddly enough, a desire to add decor to our house and make it uniquely our own in the form of living art. When we purchased our house three years ago, the idea of tranquility and color these amazing creatures brought was much more appealing than any simple painting print or vase. While the notion of displaying mother nature's artistry was appealing, research was required. I am a firm proponent that before bringing any living entity or pet within your home, it is your responsibility to research the organism's needs. Unfortunately, far too many living creatures meet insufferable existences all in the name of a whim or impulse.

As we researched what was required to maintain an aquarium for the entrance of our home; we not only discovered a focal point for our house. We also discovered something my husband and I had been seeking for years, a joint hobby. Mr. Krill and I met in college while pursuing undergraduate degrees in biology. I personally have a love for animals and enjoy acquiring new knowledge and understanding of their mannerisms. While Mr. Krill would describe himself as more of a technology enthusiast who enjoys analyzing interactions and developing a comprehension for how things work. This hobby has enabled us to blend our passions and utilize our degrees. I tend to study the fauna of the tank while Mr. Krill dives into the mechanical and chemical attributes of the environment.

Through this blog we hope to share with new aquarists what we have learned through this dynamic hobby. To date we currently have two active freshwater tanks (discus tank and pico planted) and are venturing into the saltwater domain within the upcoming weeks. While researching we have combed through information in the form of Youtube videos, forums, informational websites, product reviews and books. A few hours of research will make one thing very clear, everyone has something different to say on every topic of this hobby. We hope to present our viewpoint as budding aquarists. We will be sharing our opinions, successes and failures in order to help others learn and hopefully encourage longtime hobbyists to share their experiences and advice as well. If you have made it this far, congratulations! You might just have the patience it takes to be successful within this hobby!
